Q • Identify 5 purposes of criminal sanctions that are used to rational punishment.
• What are the major weaknesses in the international prison data available in the world today?
There are five purposes of criminal sanctions which are Retribution, Which means the accused has to give something back to the society in return for the damage he or she has caused by his or her acts. Next purpose is rehabilitation, which means that the criminal will change into a completely different person who follows law more obediently. This process takes a time and medical and psychological help. The third purpose of criminal sanctions is deterrence, which is basically creating a fear of punishment within the offenders through tough punishments so that they realize that they have to face these circumstances after committing a crime and thus they will stay away from the crimes.
